2. Volkswagen Golf

In the compact car category, the Volkswagen Golf ranked #1 out of 27. Whether it’s the standard four-cylinder turbo or the turbo diesel motor in the TDI model, critics agree that the Volkswagen Golf has adequate power and is fun to drive. Estimated EPA gas mileage of 25 mpg city and 37 mpg highway is comparable to other cars in its class. The Golf handles turns with ease due to a fine tuned suspension, giving the Golf a very comfortable ride overall. Compared to other cars in its class, reviewers found the Golf’s interior more upscale. Front seats are comfortable even on long drives, which is always a plus. Kelley Blue Book summed up the Golf in their review with: “The Golf offers tremendous utility and good fuel economy, a fun-to-drive spirit, and one of the best interiors in its class.”
